Alternatives

Pliability alternatives: four options by what you train for

The main Pliability alternatives are GOWOD for assessment-led CrossFit mobility, STRETCHIT for instructor-led flexibility classes, Bend for illustrated routines with a free tier, and Lucy for short routines aimed at people who sit rather than train.

What Pliability is good at

Worth establishing before listing alternatives, because it sets the bar.

Pliability, formerly ROMWOD, is more than 1,500 on-demand videos with new sessions added daily, plus movement assessments and plans built from what they find. It is built for the CrossFit and strength world, where mobility work exists to support training.

Its two real strengths are library depth and assessment. Any alternative costs you at least one.

Which to pick, by reason

If you want the assessment without the library

GOWOD. It is the other assessment-first app in this space, built around profiling your restrictions and programming to them. The closest like-for-like swap for Pliability if assessment is the feature you actually use.

If you want a teacher rather than a library

STRETCHIT. Instructor-led classes from five to forty-five minutes, more than a hundred hours of instruction, aimed at flexibility goals rather than training support. Different purpose, well executed.

If the cost is the issue

Bend. The broadest ongoing free tier in the category, plus a premium upgrade, on both iPhone and Android. You lose the assessment and the athletic specificity.

If you stopped training and the app stopped fitting

Lucy, which is ours, so weigh it accordingly.

This is the case worth spelling out, because it is a common one. Pliability makes sense while you are training. If your training stops, or shrinks to twice a week, a 1,500-video athletic mobility library becomes an expensive thing you do not open.

Lucy is sixteen routines, nothing past six minutes, built for someone who sits for eight hours rather than someone who lifts. It has two cooldown routines, for running and for strength, which is the only part of it aimed at training.

It is also the narrowest option here: iPhone only, no assessment, no video, a tiny library by comparison, and one free routine rather than a broad free tier. On content and platform coverage, every other app on this page beats it.

The honest case for staying

If you train seriously, nothing on this list replaces Pliability except GOWOD, and GOWOD is a different approach rather than a cheaper copy.

A smaller app is not a budget version of an athletic mobility platform. It is a different product for a different week, and swapping down because of price usually ends with you not doing mobility work at all.

On session length and the evidence

Since length is the main axis these apps differ on, the relevant research:

A 2025 meta-analysis in Sports Medicine, pooling 189 studies and 6,654 adults, found thirty-second holds working as well as sixty-second ones, session gains flattening at roughly four minutes per muscle group, and weekly gains flattening at about ten minutes per muscle group regardless of distribution.

Read it carefully. That is about flexibility outcomes. Mobility work in training also serves preparation and recovery, which the review was not measuring, so it is not an argument against longer sessions if you train.

What none of these do

All five are general fitness and wellness products. None provides medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, and none is adapted to a specific injury or diagnosis. An in-app mobility assessment is not a clinical assessment, however detailed it looks.

If you are returning from an injury, a physiotherapist is the right first stop whichever app you choose. Our fitness and safety note sets out Lucy's position.

FAQ

What is the best Pliability alternative?

GOWOD, if assessment-led mobility for training is what you want. The others trade that away for something else: classes with STRETCHIT, a free tier with Bend, very short sessions with Lucy.

Is GOWOD or Pliability better?

Both are assessment-led and aimed at the same market, with Pliability leaning on library size and GOWOD on programming from your profile. Trying both trials is more useful than reading a comparison, since they differ in feel more than in features.

Is there a free alternative to Pliability?

Bend has the broadest ongoing free tier. Lucy has one complete routine free forever. Neither is a free version of an athletic mobility platform, and expecting that will disappoint you.

What should I use if I stopped doing CrossFit?

Something sized for your actual week. If you now sit for most of the day, a desk-oriented app is a better fit than an athletic one, which is the case Lucy is built for.

Does Lucy work for post-workout mobility?

It has two cooldown routines, one after running and one after strength work, each five or six minutes. For anything more than a cooldown, Pliability or GOWOD are better equipped.

Is Pliability the same as ROMWOD?

Yes, Pliability is the current name for the product formerly called ROMWOD. Older reviews under that name are describing the same app.

All details checked October 2026 against each publisher's own store listings and published material. Pliability, formerly ROMWOD: 1,500+ on-demand videos with new sessions daily, mobility tests and personalised plans. No ratings or review counts are reproduced for any app, including ours.

Lucy is a general wellness app. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Stretch within a comfortable range and stop anything that hurts. Fitness and safety.
